I believe the mod works on all versions... But I'd suggest, if you are using 2.0.15, to update your forums to 2.0.17... If not, the gender mod will be the least of your worries.

It doesn't work right on 2.0.17.

The gender mod does work on 2.0.17, you have made an fault somewhere, or you didn't execute the installer.

I did it all right, but the lang main thing says parse t error or something like that...

If, by some chance, you are as new to phpbb mods as I am, than perhaps you have made the same mistake as I did. And my mistake was to paste some things immediately after the text the manual said to find, instead of after that line. It will be useful to turn on the line numbers if you are using sth that can show it, this is what actually helped me.

I downloaded my version of hack from phpbbhacks.com and it works with my phpbb version 2.0.18.
