Will Shoutbox be compatable with a chat room?

Postby Rep on Wed 11. May, 2005 05:48

I have a chat room on my phpBB2 bulletin board.

I would like to add a choutbox, as I see a particular application. I do have a chat room. It is an X7Chat-v1.3.6B.

Will the two work as seperate units? And, will they be compatable?

Thanks

I would like to again ask for advice on this issue. Maybe somebody also has an alternative for what I want to do.

I have a phpBB forum that is a work site. As such, various modes of communication are important.

phpBB allows:

E-mail
Private Messaging
Forum organization
To support staff to staff communication.

My MX Portal allows for:
Admin to staff announcements and information

My X7 Chat allows for:
Individual meetings
Group meetings.

I am in need of a tool that would allow staff to make announcements at the index page. Info such as this gets lost in the forums too easily.

I was thinking that Shoutbox would be an excellent application. But I am concerned that it would conflict with the X7.

The X7 is housed outside of the phpBB directory, but is fully integrated with the phpBB database.

Is there another application that I could use?
Or, if Soutbox is the best, would it conflict with X7?

Thanks.

I began this thread a month or so ago and am still needing some advice. I am ready to add the shoutbox as I think it is a good solution to meet my need.

My concern is conflict between the X7 chat room and Shoutbox.

What steps should I go through to determine ahead of time that adding the two mods to a site may or may not work?

There is no conflict possible, I see no reason why it is going to conflict. Your chatbox is not a phpBB mod (I know many of them, and this one I don't know)

The X7 chat room does integrate with the phpBB database. Will there be a conflict in the db?

The shoutbox has his own table in the database, and doesn't touht anything else.

Thanks so much for your comments.

I did install the shoutbox last night. There is no conflict, as you had told me.

I used Easymod to install it after updating the database per instructions. I worked flawlessly.
