NOT compatible with 2.0.10?

Postby antoonvdr on Sat 27. Nov, 2004 00:33

Yesterday I tried to install this mod.
After I was done, I tried to open my forum but the screen went completely blank, no error messages.
I undid all modifications: still blank screen.
I reuploaded a backup: still blank screen!
I ended up reinstalling my whole board. :?
Anyway, no harm done but wasted an hour or so... but can anybody assure me that this mod is compatible with 2.0.10 or 2.0.11??
Thx

I'm pretty shure what you have experinced have nothing to do with this mod.

I'ts ok to belive a wrongly modifyed file can cause your forum to go blank.
how-ever as soon as the buggy file is replaced by a backup. Your forum should once again behave as prior to the mod (since it's the same file)

More likely it was a upload problem or another problem. It is a common error uploading in ascii while the servers will only run if files are uploaded in binary - try change upload mode to binary, or if it was binary some users have also reported uploading in ascii did help.
it seam server OS realted
(if a how-to is EM ready, it will mostly be bullet prof, since a machine is more picky than a human. :D)

Thx for your quick reply :D
I thought uploading in ASCII would always work... But since I upgraded my editor (Acehtml PRO) I seem to HAVE to upload in ASCII otherwise the editor add extra linebreaks. But the mods I install usually work ... :?
Would there be a way to test your theory?

first verify that you are able to reproduce the error

e.g. download a original phpBB2 file (keep a backup of the file)
modify it slightly - add some
Code: Select all
// dummy line in the header

then re-upload it - see it your site works.
if not, try change upload mode (ascii -> binary).

I know this have solved the problem for some users - if it solves yours only the test will show.
