Mod: user can choose one of the open group when register

Let User choose his own Group when Registering
(autiomatically approved)
Hi, I really need some thing, similar to "Auto Group", but different.
My story is that I have a friends-forum, that "Group" merely means the user's class which he is studying, such as group 11th form, or 12th form
Special groups such as "Support team" is no needed (if I need, i can make a "closed group" to manually add good-contributing member), and I have no reason to make difficulties for the users to have the membership of a group. I just want them to choose his own group (when register, all open group is listed in a drop-down box for them to choose, with the description: "choose the group which you belong to".

If I know right, "open group" in phpBB does not mean "open" at all, if a user want to join, a group, they must apply and waiting for the group leader's approval. That takes too much time

Here is why I want to make such a mod:

Most of my members are just "newbie" in IT, and beginners are lazy  ,force them to click on the "group" link on the menu and apply for a group, waiting for it to be approved is a prolonged procedure, dont you think?

I make the forum for only 3 highschool class members, so the total member will be not many, therefore their online time is limited (internet in my country is not very popular). I don't want a new user who apply for a group has to be waiting too long, one week, two week for the group leader's next login to accept them.

For each group's feeling of something called "privacy" and "have their own forum", I let them to only see their classmate's posts, not other member's posts, which means I make Private forum for each group, a member of "A" group can see only their own "A" forum, while he can't know that forum "B" of B members are exist, because they are not visible to them. Of course, this is only a relative privacy, because one user can join more than 1 group. But at least most of them who belong to only 1 group don't feel disturbed or being interfered by other "stranger's" post, and without knowing the existence of other groups' forums. I think this is great for them.

if we do that nowadays, with all what phpBB currently provide us up to now, this may cause lots of trouble for new users. They have to be a member of the group first, before they can read a post! I don't think I have the patience to register oneday and come back another day to see their group's membership approved, so that they can read their classmates' posts. I want more convenient to them, they simply choose the group, and they are it's member!

Yes, I need the mod work like that

We add a new drop-down box in the registration page, which list all the current open group
New user can choose ONE group they are belong to. After the registration process is done, they are the group's member also! The forum automatically approved the user's application]

See why ONE is in bold:
After that, if they want them to have the membership of another group, they will just have to do normally as usual: go to the group page and apply, wait for the group leader accept him. That is to make sure no one can "mass" apply to be the member of all group, to view and interfere other class's small forum.
This is to prevent REAL STRANGERS, who is truly not belong to any class at all (intruder), they just visit the forum and want to read all the posts.
With this, they can only read one group's forum, and if they want more they have to have our permission, which make them not beyond our control, while not making too much trouble to register to REAL MEMBERS

Anyone can help me?
