Hi Niels,
this is a great mod and includes a lot of potential!

Since you get many informations about users with their registration, it would be great to built groups on this data.

Lets group by gender, by age, by country, by language, by the date since they joined, by the number of posts of course (little or many) ... and then of combinations of all that

And if you vary the birthday mod a little bit and add astrological signs, they can be grouped by this, too.

Maybe a challenge... step-by-step,

these idears are in fact good....but there is a problem....speed

all autogroups will takea litle speed from your forum, depending on the compleity of the group "type".
So it would (maybe) not be so good to implement meny more types, but I like the Idear and would like to inverstigate it litle further
maybe gender, and a age group, would be posible it would not be that mutch work for the CPU to handle

yet another problem about security, if you would use the AUTO GROUP for applying permissions to forum, by gender or age, it wouldgive no meaning, since the users always can change there birth or gender, giving them access as they please.

but if it where only to aplly when sending out mass email by gender or age or any other thing, then it would make sence, and no problem about the speed, becouse this is only a matter when sending out the messages, and it really doesen't matter.

maybe this is more a add on for my custom mass email mod

Intead of numbers could we divide the usergroups into areas automatically when the user chooses an area they want, say on a drop down they go into that group and only see the posts in their area?

it's not made, only the plain "auto group" mod is availbe.

as said, this would raise some security related isues, where users could manually change "groups" depending on the choise in theire profile.
this is the main reason why the idear is dropped
